Technically called a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia–Military Operations In Hostile Conditions insignia (SSI–MOHC), the unit patch of the 143rd Sustainment Command—the design of which is also used for the Command's Combat Service ID Badge—was approved on 24 October 1968 for the unit's original designation as the 143rd Transportation Brigade. When the unit became the 143rd Transportation Command in 1985, the patch was redesignated with both the description and symbolism amended. In 2007 the unit took on its current designation of the 143rd Sustainment Command, and again the patch was redesignated with an amended description and symbolism.
Yellow and red are the colors used to denote units allotted to the Transportation Corps, the Command's branch of service from 1968 until 2007. The arrowheads are representative of the 143rd’s leadership, readiness for battle, and determined and controlled direction, and their interlacing orientation reflects the strong support systems the Command creates and utilizes; the layout also symbolizes roads and travel, another reference to the Command's functions while assigned to the Transportation Corps.
The 143rd Sustainment Command plans, coordinates, and leads sustainment operations. They also manage theater deployment and redeployment to support areas of ongoing operations. The unit’s motto is also indicative of their actions and mission, “Movement Brings Victory."
