The 14th Military Police Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, as approved for wear on 12 April 1985. Green and yellow, the predominant colors employed in the color version of this patch (and in the Combat Service ID Badge), have been the branch colors of the Military Police since 1922.
A polestar or compass is the focal point of the insignia; its four points are directed at the four corners of the earth. They also represent the four combat missions of the Military Police branch: Law and order, battlefield circulation and control, rear battle operations, and prisoners of war. The axe-like tool crossed with a sword is a fasces, and in heraldry it is reference to the authority of the magistrate to investigate crimes and carry out justice; the sword is an allusion to the Brigade’s combat mission. They are both colored red, the color of courage.
The “X” formed by the fasces and sword on the green field of the shield is the Roman numeral ten; added to the four compass points, it denotes the numerical designation of the unit.
