For nearly thirty years, the unit that is known today as the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB), 18th Field Artillery Brigade was designated the HHB, XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery. It received that designation on 1 May 1951 and was activated under it twenty days later at Fort Bragg, with approval for the background trimming being given on 20 November 1951.
September 1978 saw the unit redesignated as the HHB, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, a designation it would hold until the Army changed it to HHB, 18th Fires Brigade on 16 June 2007. Less than seven years elapsed before the unit was once again designated as HHB, 18th Field Artillery Brigade.
The Brigade's most recent activity came in 2022 when its 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment was rapidly to Germany on February 28 in support of the 18th Airborne Corps’ efforts to bolster NATOS’s Eastern flank and support NATO in countering potential Russian aggression after Russia invaded Ukraine.
