The authority of law and the realm of the military are combined in the 18th Military Police Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch. On a shield featuring a green field and a yellow border—green and yellow are the colors of the Military Police Corps—a sword is charged over a Roman
fasces. The fasces is an ancient symbol of the authority of a magistrate to administer justice; the sword symbolizes the military nature of both the laws and their infractions, as well as the personnel enforcing them.
Headquartered at Grafenwoher, Germany, the 18th Military Police Brigade comprises the 709th Military Police Battalion and the 15th Engineer Battalion in addition to its Headquarters and Headquarters Company. The Brigade falls falls under the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, which was originally activated as the 1st Support Brigade in Mannheim, Germany in 1965. It received its current numerical designation in 1976 when it was redesignated 21st Support Command; it was redesignated 21st Theater Army Area Command a dozen years later, and 21st Theater Support Command in October 2000. 21st Theater Sustainment Command was established in August 2007.
