Approved on 21 May 2004 and amended on 4 August 2004 to include a more accurate unit description, the 1st Operations Command (Land) Shoulder Sleeve Insignia is replete with imagery that conveys the functions and responsibilities of this multi-component, branch-immaterial unit.
A green circle (colored ACU patch) outlines a globe and the theoretical area of operations for the unit, with the shade intentionally chosen to represent the “land” aspect of its mission. Black and white hemispheres coexist in the field and stand for day and night, symbolizing the 24-7 nature of the Command’s job. A lightning sword serving as a sort of bend is a reminder of the Command’s responsibility to shield and safeguard all military forces through the constant guarding of classified information; a lightning flash indicates the speed at which Information Operations are conducted, as well as their reach.
