The 207th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) was constituted originally on 10 May 1944 as the 113th Counterintelligence Corp but was not activated until two years later on 20 May 1946. After several redesignations, it became the 207th Military Intelligence Group in 1983, then became the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade on 16 October 1985. Assigned to VII Corps, the Brigade served in Operations Desert Shield / Desert Storm before being inactivated in 1992. Nearly 20 years would elapse before the unit was reactivated in 2016 and named the first theater-level Military Intelligence Brigade whose area of responsibility was exclusively Africa in support of AFRICOM and U.S. Army Africa (USARAF).
Oriental blue and silver gray are used on the color version of the 207th Military Intelligence Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (often called a unit patch) because they are long associated with the Military Intelligence branch, while red is inspired by the patch of VII Corps (it was also inactivated in 1992). The crossed key and lightning bolt symbolize security and electronic warfare and denote the numeral “2” of the Brigade’s numeric designation. A seven-petaled “rose” is a nod to the traditional compass, dagger, and rose commonly seen in heraldry for the Military Intelligence branch; it also stands for the “7” in the unit’s numerical designation and parent (VII) corps. The circular shape of the total insignia simulates the number “0” for the numerical designation “207.”
