Headquartered at Smyrna, Delaware, the 261st Signal Brigade (TTSB), or 261st Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, is one of three major commands in the Delaware Army National Guard. In addition to its Headquarters and Headquarters Company, it comprises a single Battalion, the 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, whose lineage goes back to the 9 September 1775 authorization of the Delaware Regiment in the Continental Army. The Brigade itself was originally constituted as the 68th Antiaircraft Artillery Brigade and was not designated as a unit in the Signal Corps branch until it became Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 261st Signal Command on 1 January 1970, adopting the motto "Foresee" a few years later for both its motivational and aspirational qualities.
The 261st Signal Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was originally approved while the unit was still a Signal Command on 7 January 1971. The orange and white sections of the colored version of the patch reflects its status as a Signal Corps unit (they are official branch colors), while the Colonial blue and buff shadings are inspired by the state flag of Delaware, the unit’s home area. One star is an allusion to Delaware as the first state to ratify the Constitution and also represents the capital city of Dover. The pattern created by the connected lozenges (diamonds) reflects highly accurate planning, a trait of the unit’s capabilities and mission, while white and orange “zig-zags” simulate electrical flashes, a reference to communications technology. The distinct appearance of this insignia led to the Brigade's unofficial nickname of "Diamond Brigade."
