Created on 10 October 1918, the Second Army was in combat for just one month before the signing of the Armistice, yet 102 of its troops were honored with the Distinguished Service Cross in that very brief period. After serving occupation duty for a few months in Luxembourg and Belgium, Second Army was demobilized in France in April 1919.
Over the next ten decades, Second Army would be activated and inactivated three times, the first two times to train new Soldiers and units, the last time to facilitate command and control between Army Cyber Command and Network Enterprise Technology Command.
During World War II, Second Army trained 11 corps, 55 divisions, and 2,000 smaller echelons of all services and arms—almost one million men in all—to be used in all theaters of combat. In the 21
st century, the Second Army brought stability to Army Cyber Command and NEXCOM during its three years tenure overseeing the organization. It was inactivated from that role on 31 March 2017.
