A component of Military Assistance Command, Viet-nam (MACV), II Field Force was activated on 15 March 1966 and quickly grew into the largest Corps command in Vietnam (and one of the largest in U.S. Army history). II Field Force was headquartered at Long Binh and was assigned III Corps Tactical Zone as its area of responsibility, which consisted of eleven provinces around Saigon. II Field Force was inactivated on 2 May 1971, with some of its responsibilities being handed to the Third Regional Assistance Command.
Like I Field Force, the II Field Force Shoulder Sleeve Insignia features a “crusader’s sword” that was inspired by the design of the insignia of MACV and United States Army, Vietnam. Both U.S. (red-white-blue) and Vietnamese (red-yellow) national colors are included in the insignia, with three of them—blue, red, and yellow—serving as branch colors for the Infantry, Artillery, and Armor respectively.
