U.S. ARMY 2ND THEATER SIGNAL BRIGADE UNIT PATCH (SSI)

The 2nd Signal Brigade, now designated the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade, was originally formed as the 3348th Signal Service Group in 1944, receiving its current numerical designation in 1947 when it was redesignated the 2nd Signal Service Group; in 1953 it became the 2nd Signal Group. It was not until 1 October 1979 that the unit was designated as the 2nd Signal Brigade (and it is not clear when it was designated as a Theater Signal Brigade).

Today, the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade comprises five signal battalions and a support group made up of civilians, with each of the battalions providing communications and signal support within a geographic area of responsibility, or AOR. In all, the Brigade’s cumulative AOR covers a total of nine countries, and it is sole provider for voice and data support more than 100 units in Europe.

The 2nd Theater Signal Brigade patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, features a pair of orange lighting flashes on a blue globe set on a white background. Orange and white are Signal Corps’ colors, and the two flashes recall the Roman numeral II and thus the Brigade’s numerical designation; the globe symbolizes the worldwide reach of modern Signal technology.
