A subordinate unit of the 79th Sustainment Support Command, the 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) is an Army Reserve unit headquartered in Los Angeles that has over 6,100 Soldiers under its purview based in California, Arizona, and Nevada. It was originally constituted as the 311th Logistical Command in 1950. After several redesignations and reorganizations, including a lengthy stint as a Corps Support Command (COSCOM), it received its current designation in 2005 to make it one of five Expeditionary Sustainment Commands in the Army Reserve (the unit is referred as the 311th ESC for short)
The 311th Sustainment Command unit patch, formally known as a Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, was designed and approved for the 311th Logistical Command on 20 March 1955. Its three interconnected arrows moving around a vital area suggest the three components or functions of the organization: Quartering, Transport, and Supply of troops. It also reinforces the triad of tasks enumerated in the unit motto, “Provide, Sustain, Maintain.”
