U.S. ARMY 362ND REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 362nd Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 362nd Infantry Regiment on 11 June 1925. It was redesignated for the 362nd Regiment on 26 January 1962.

A pine tree in the center of the shield portion of the insignia is taken from the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) of the 91st Division, the parent organization with which this unit was associated with for nearly 100 years. A fleur-de-lis stands for service in France, the lion for service in Belgium, and the walking bear for the allocation of the Regiment to  California. ARMA TUENTUR PACEM is Latin for “Arms Are The Guardians Of Peace.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 362nd Infantry Regiment was fist constituted in the National Army on 5 August 1917 and was assigned to the 91st Division. It would go on to serve with the 91st Division (later 91st Infantry Division) during both World Wars, taking part in a total of seven campaigns in all.

When it was given its current designation in May 1959, it was reorganized so that the Regiment (and subsequently any of its Battalions) would be elements of the 91st Division. It would eventually be allotted three Battalions, all of them elements of the 91st Division until the 362nd Regiment was reorganized on 2 October 2009 as a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System and all the Battalions were concurrently relieved from assignment to the 91st Division (Training Support).

Since the launch of the War on Terrorism, the Regiment’s 1st, 2d, and 3d Battalions have all been tapped for two Army Superior Unit Awards, one for service between 2003-1005 and another for 2008-2011.
