Allotted to the United States Army Reserve, the 3rd Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) was originally constituted as the 3rd Transportation Command in 1969. It was redesignated as a brigade in 1972, then as the 3rd Transportation Agency in 1994. A decade later, it was redesignated under its original title, only to revert to another previously used designation in 1913 when it became the 3rd Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary). Currently, the Brigade is assigned to 377th Theater Sustainment Command and is based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Compared to its Distinctive Unit Insignia, the 3rd Transportation Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (unit patch) is about as minimalist as it gets. Besides serving as a reference to railway transportation, the three railroad ties are a reference to the Brigade’s primary mission, and the five-pointed star is a universal symbol of command. The color patch uses brick red and golden yellow, the colors of the Trnasportation.
