The 401st Support Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, might set the record for having the shortest officially approved wear life of all time. It was approved for wear on 11 December 2006, just a couple of years after the 401st Support Brigade was created from Army Materiel Command Forward-Southwest Asia. On 21 February 2010, less than four years after it was approved, it was cancelled by the Headquarters, Department of the Army.
Red, white, and blue partitions found on the color version of the 401st Support Battalion unit patch are adapted from those found on the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, and bring with them the mission of support and ensuring the flow of materiel to Soldiers. An inverted chevron formed where the bottom two partitions meet highlights the Brigade being the only point of entry to Army Materiel Command from the field. Gold trim is employed to embody the Brigade’s commitment to excellence and high ideals. An upright sword denotes readiness to support the Soldiers, while the palm fronds in the upper partition are symbols of the Southwest Asia; they also are symbols of success.
