The 416th Theater Engineer Command was originally constituted in the Organized Reserve Corps (now Army Reserve) as the 416th Engineer Brigade on 15 June 1950 and activated the following August 24th. It was reorganized and redesignated as the 416th Engineer Command on 31 January 1968, and in 1996 its Headquarters were relocated from Chicago to Darien, Illinois. One of just two Theater Engineer Commands in the Army, the 416th TEC provides full-spectrum engineering services in a supported theater, a mission it has performed impeccably over the course of 14 consecutive years of deployments in support of overseas contingency operations.
Approved on 1 April 1969, the design of the 416th Theater Engineer Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, simulates a castle turret and thus recalls the Corps of Engineers branch insignia; scarlet and white are the Corps’ branch colors. The Unit motto, "Serving By Building," is found on the Command's unit crest (see link below).
