We offer Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patches, in two styles. Colored patches are for wear with the Class A/B Army Green Uniform, which was discontinued in 2015, while the subdued ACU patch is for wear with the Army Combat Uniform. When choosing this type of patch, please ensure that the type you select corresponds to the type of ACU (UCP or OCP) on which it will be attached.
Approval for the 42nd Infantry Division Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was originally transmitted by telegram on 29 October 1918, but the War Department did not officially authorize it for wear until 27 May 1922; it was redesignated for the 42nd Infantry Division on 8 September 1947, and a green border was added on 24 March 1966.
Although the 42nd Division did not arrive in France until December 1944, it still managed to compile an impressive combat record over the course of just a few months. Assigned to 7th Army, it was the first unit in VI Corps to enter Germany, the first to break through the Siegfried Line, and the first to enter Munich. And it was the 42nd Infantry Division, along with the 45th Infantry, that liberated the concentration camp at Dachau in late April 1945.
