Orange and white, branch colors of the Signal Corps, are the predominant colors used in the the color version of the 516th Signal Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia that was originally authorized for the 1106th Signal Brigade on 11 October 1989. It was cancelled for that unit effective 15 October 1992 and authorized for the 516th Medical Brigade the following day. A pair of lightning flashes symbolize communications and electronics; when crossed they indicate strength. The flashes also form the outline of orange arrowheads pointing to the center to suggest processing of signals and signal communications. An upright spears denotes the combat aspect of the unit’s missions and alludes to the unit’s aggressiveness and its combat heritage.
Nicknamed “Voice Of The Pacific," the current incarnation of the 516th Signal Brigade was activated on 16 October 1992 at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. It was created through the redesignation of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 516th Signal Group, which had been inactivated since 13 November 1967. The Brigade can trace its ultimate origins to the constitution of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3367th Signal Service Battalion on 10 October 1944 on New Guinea. The Battalion served in four campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was honored with a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.
