On 4 August 2017, the “Dragon Warriors” of 5th Signal Command held an inactivation ceremony at Clay Kaserne in Wiesbaden, Germany, casing its colors after 43 years of providing “Professional Communications” service to Army, joint, and multinational commands. During its four-plus decades, the Command deployed component units in support of numerous Operations, including but not limited to Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, Joint Endeavor, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. With its inactivation, the 2nd Theater Signal Brigade will assume most of its operational responsibilities.
Authorized on 24 October 1994, the 5th Signal Command Shoulder Sleeve Insignia features a green demidragon with on an orange shield with white border. The two lightning flashes represent the speed of modern communications, while the demidragon’s green color represents the verdant landscape of the Command’s area of operations in Germany. Orange and white are Signal Corps colors.
