6th Special Operations Support Command (SOSC) was activated in 1990 and was assigned to U.S. Army Atlantic (ARLANT), the Army element of the joint U.S. Atlantic Command (USLANTCOM at the time, later USACOM). The nucleus of 6th SOSC was formed form the inactivated Special Operations Division of U.S. Forces Command and was headed by that Division's former Commander, Colonel James Shepherd.
Officially designated 6th Theater Arm Special Operations Support Command (TASOC) and was tasked with providing support and sustainment for all assigned Army Special Operations Forces assigned to USLANTCOM. It was one of five TASOCs activated in the early 1990s, along with the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th. All five were reorganized in 1995 into the Special Operations Support Command (Airborne), which was inactivated in 2005 and reflagged as U.S. Army Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) (Provisional). In 2009, the unit was reflagged as the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne).
