Garrisoned at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where its primary mission is training new Field Artillery personnel, the 75th Field Artillery Brigade—nicknamed “Diamond” because of the design of its Shoulder Sleeve Insignia—is also ready to deploy to any operation to plan and execute combined and joint fires, using attached ground and air units to serve as a maneuver headquarters. In addition to five Field Artillery battalions, it also comprises a Brigade Support Battalion containing a Headquarters Support Company, a Transportation Company, and a Network Support Company.
During the War on Terror, the Brigade has performed admirably and certainly lived up to its casual motto, “Tough As Diamonds.” For a 10-month deployment to Iraq in 2008, its Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (while designated the 75th Fires Brigade) was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation in 2013, and according to the Army General Orders Unit Awards Index, a HHB Detachment was honored with a Meritorious Unit Citation for service between 16 December 2012 and 15 September 2013.
The 75th Field Artillery Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, approved on 18 September 2006 while the unit was designated the 75th Fires Brigade, uses the Artillery colors of scarlet and yellow to immediately convey the unit’s branch. A field piece is an emblem of the unit’s firepower, and the lozenge is used as a reference to the unofficial motto, “Tough As Diamonds” (the official motto is “Taut Lanyards”).
