Constituted in October 1944 and activated on 22 November 1944 in England the 807th Medical Service Detachment, the 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) was allocated to the Organized Reserve Corps in January 1948, which became the Army Reserve two months later. The unit was awarded official campaign participation credit for its service in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater (its streamer does not specify a specific campaign, however).
In its 70-plus years, the unit has undergone several inactivations and redesignations, but has always retained the 870th numerical designation. It was given its current designation as a Medical Command in 2002 while headquartered at Seagoville Texas, from where it relocated to Salt Lake City in 2008. Concurrent with the move, the unit was designated as the Theater Medical Command for SouthCom.
The 807th Medical Command’s unit patch, or Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, was originally approved in December 1976 while the unit was designated as a brigade. It was left unchanged when it was redesignated for the 807th Medical Command on 17 September 2002. You will find the same design used for the 807th's Combat Service Identification Badge (CSIB), while the Command's Distinctive Unit Insignia (unit crest) is far more elaborate, with imagery hearkening back to its activation in England (a lion's head) and service in France (fleur-de-lis). The unit crest also contains the Command's motto, "Dedicated to Health."
