The 8th Sustainment Command Shoulder Sleeve insignia (SSI), or unit patch, was originally authorized for the 8th Field Army Support Command (FASCOM) on 3 May 1968, which was inactivated at in June 1971 at Fort Lewis, Washington. It was redesignated as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 8th Theater Sustainment Command in April 2005, with the old 8th FASCOM unit patch redesignated for it on 6 December 2005.
In January, 2006, the Army put the “meat on the bones” of the command by inactivating the 45th Corps Support Group and reorganizing it as the 8th Theater Sustainment Command (Provisional). The Command was made permanent in 2010, with three core subordinate units: the 130th Engineer Brigade, 8th Military Police Brigade, 10th Regional Support Group.
A shield divided into eight alternating and equally sized red and white segments forms the basis of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command unit patch; the pattern is taken from the Eight Army Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. A blue, eight-pointed star signifies a command-level organization, and the manner in which the red and white wedges enclose the star suggest support.
