The 902nd Engineer Brigade is an Army Reserve unit headquartered at Montgomery, Alabama that serves as a subordinate command to the 412th Theater Engineer Command. Originally constituted on 17 June 1943 in the Army of the United states as the 926th Engineer Aviation Regiment (its Headquarters and Headquarters and Service Company were activated on 20 June 1943 at Richmond, Virginia), the Brigade’s history includes participation in four campaigns in World War II and two during the First Gulf War (officially designated as the Southwest Asia campaign). Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, the Brigade’s service in support of the War on Terrorism has been recognized with two Meritorious Unit Commendations for its deployments to Iraq (2003–2004, 2008–2009).
Scarlet and white, branch colors of the Engineer Corps, are used to create a series of diamonds within diamonds on the 926th Engineer Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, commonly referred to as a unit patch. A red saltire (“x” shape) inside a red diamond with white infill is a reference to the Cross of St. Andrew and the Alabama State Flag, the Brigade’s home state since 1949. The red saltire creates four white diamonds or squares that highlight the four main mission of the Engineers: Mobility, Countermobility, Survivability, and Sustainment. A gold castle superimposed on the center of the saltire is taken from the Corps of Engineers branch insignia. The 926th Engineer Brigade unit patch was approved on 9 November 2006.
