Headquartered at Fort Gregg-Adams (formerly named Fort Lee) in Virginia, the 94th Training Division (Force Sustainment) is responsible for the Reserve’s Non-Commissioned Officer and Commissioned Officer Education Systems and carries out specific MOS-Reclassifications and other functional training.
Its lineage goes back to the 94th Division organized in 1921, and since that time it has been allocated both to the Regular Army and the Army Reserve, leading to numerous insignia changes and redesignations and the peculiar situation of having as many unofficial nicknames (3) as it does officially authorized Shoulder Sleeve Insignias.
Two of those nicknames—“Patton’s Division” and “Patton’s Golden Nuggett”—were based upon the unit being assigned to Armies under the command of General George S. Patton during World War II. The other, “Neuf-Quatres” (but pronounced “Neuf Cats") was inspired by the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia seen on this page, which was first authorized in 1942. Units authorized to wear the “9/4” Shoulder Sleeve Insignia include those serving with the unit from 5 September 1942 to 14 May 1956, and those units serving with the Division from 27 November 1991 to present day.
