Aides-de-Camp serving Commanders, Lieutenant Generals, or other Air Force, DoD, or government officials of equivalent rank (O-9) wear this collar insignia featuring the three stars associated with the Officer or official’s grade. Aide-de-Camp has the Special Duty Identifier of SDI 88A0.
There is no special degree or training course required for Officers who serve as Aides-de-Camp, but a thorough knowledge of military customs, courtesies and etiquette is essential, along with a complete understanding of the United States Air Force’s organization, history, missions, and current policies.
Because Aides-de-Camp frequently serve alongside high-ranking Officers and officials at formal affairs, candidates must display flawless military appearance and comport themselves impeccably. They must also have displayed an ability to organize and oversee complex projects, and of course must have a willingness to engage in extensive travel.
Aide-de-Camp candidates must also be cleared to access Top Secret materials by undergoing a Single Scope Background Investigation.
