U.S. MILITARY MIRRORED SILVER STUDS
Studs are typically worn with shirts for highly formal occasions and are most closely associated with the pleated shirts worn with tuxedos. Studs are almost always worn in tandem with cuff links, but the relationship is not universally reciprocal, i.e., it’s not uncommon to see cuff links worn without studs, at least in civilian settings.
Studs are authorized for wear with the most formal uniforms issued by the various branches of the U.S. military and affiliated organizations, as well as non-military uniformed services. Studs should always match the color and finish of the cuff links with which they are worn, even if a particular service’s uniform regulations do not state this explicitly.
Among the military branches and associated organizations, and uniformed services that authorize the wear of silver studs are the Navy (enlisted personnel below E-6), Air Force, and Civil Air Patrol.
