An Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) works in conjunction with either standard United States Army combat-maneuver units or units from Special Operations organizations as such as the Army’s Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha and 75th Ranger Regiment or Navy SEAL Teams. The TACP establishes and maintains communications to enable command and control, advises commanders how to optimize the use of air-power assets, and provides precision attack guidance for fires from artillery, naval-based weapons platforms, and/or fixed-wing or rotary-wing aircraft.
The scarlet border of the cloth flash symbolizes the massive firepower that can be utilized when Air Force and Army assets work as a team A red-bordered dovetail divider visually illustrates the interlocking relationship between the Army, represented by the field of green at the bottom of the flash, and the Air Force, symbolized by the field of blue placed in the upper half (just as the sky is above the ground).
TACP organizational flashes are worn on the Air Force's black beret, authorized only for members of these highly elite teams.
