This handsome tie tack / tie clasp is authorized for wear by Command Chief Master Sergeants and features the insignia designed in 1998, when the position of Senior Enlisted Advisor was given the CCM designation. Based on the Chief Master Sergeant insignia introduced in 1991, it has a star in the blue field between the upward- and downward-pointing chevrons and is reminiscent of the insignia worn by E-9 First Sergeants. The similarity is fitting in that CCMs perform many of the same duties as E-9 First Sergeants but at a higher level, reporting directly to commanders of Major Commands, Numbered Air Forces, Wings, and Field Operating Agencies to keep them abreast on all matters related to the Enlisted cadre.
Tacks and clasps are positioned in the middle of the necktie, midway between the bottom of the tip and the bottom of the knot. Unlike other Air Force uniform components, both tacks and clasps are authorized to be worn with civilian business clothing.
