The U.S. Air Force's Air Education and Training Command is the second oldest Major Command in the Air Force. Originally designated the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Command relocated its HQ to Fort Worth and merged with the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command to become Army Air Forces Training Command in July 1943. Over the course of World War II it oversaw training and flight instruction at over 600 locations, from base installations and factories to colleges and universities.
Between 1946 and 1957, the Command’s HQ was moved three times before settling at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio and designated as the U.S. Air Force Air Training Command. In 1993, the Command merged with Air University to form the Air Education and Training Command. Today, it is still based in San Antonio at what is now named Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. Since it was first established, the Command has seen more than 25 million personnel graduate from its various training and educational programs.
