More commonly referred to as a unit crest, the First Information Operations Command (LAND) Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 21 May 2004. A branch-immateriel organization with multiple components, the Command was assigned a variety of tasks involving Intelligence, Operations, Signal, and Psychological Operations missions designed to develop new forms of warfare.
A green circle forms the basis of the insignia, with the circle’s interior divided into black and white halves. The circle is a symbol of the unit’s worldwide operations, with the color green emphasizing the “LAND” aspect of their mission. The black and white semicircles visually suggest the unit’s need to perform a round-the-clock, night-and-day watch. A lightning flash and sword are crossed in the center, with the lightning connoting speed and the Command’s capability to strike whenever and wherever required; the sword signifies the unit’s responsibility and ability to protect and defend all forces in harm’s way.
