U.S. ARMY 104TH AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

As of Summer 2023, the 104th Aviation Regiment comprises a single Battalion assigned to the 28th Infantry Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade, which was originally constituted in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in 1959 as the 28th Aviation Company and assigned to the 28th Infantry Division. It remained assigned to that Division when it was reorganized and redesignated as the 28th Aviation Battalion in 1963. Between 1968 and 1986, several of its companies were allotted to the Virginia and South Carolina National Guard, and in 1986 its HQ and HQ Company were reorganized as the 28th Aviation Brigade, 28th Infantry Division. It received its Combat Aviation Brigade designation in 2007. Since 2010, the CAB has been under the control of the Pennsyvlania Army National Guard.

Until 2016, the 104th consisted of two Battalions from the 28th Infantry Division’s CAB: the 1-104th was an Attack/Reconnaissance Battalion, while the 2-104th was a General Support Aviation Battalion. But the
1-104th was deactivated at the end of July of that year, leaving a single Battalion wearing the 104th Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia with its motto of “Winged Support.”

In 2023, units from the Regiment’s 2nd Battalion were assigned to the Army National Guard in several states, including Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Virginia, Nebraska.
