U.S. ARMY 10TH ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia worn by the personnel of the 10th Brigade Engineer Battalion was originally approved on 31 August 1940 for the 10th Engineer Battalion. It is inspired in part by the fact that a parent member of the 6th Engineers, a unit in the lineage of the Battalion, served with General Winfield Scott in Mexico and the Civil War; the two crescent are from General Scott's coat of arms. The Latin motto, LABORAMUS SUSTINERE, translates to “We Work To Assist”--a work ethic the Battalion has upheld countless times in the multiple decades of its service.

Black is used in insignia to match the color of the facings of Engineers in the Civil War, while the anchor and oars are from the badge of the Engineers and Pontioniers of the Army of the Potomac. A wavy pale on the shield's upper part alludes to the Marne River which the Regiment bridged in World War I, and a seven-pointed star taken from the cap badge of Australians is a testament to the cooperation between the Allied forces on the Amiens front. The crest is a silver oak lak, representing the capture of Clairs Chenese (Cleared Oaks) Woods on 20 October 1918, and the black gear alludes to the machinery and mechanized equipment that the Battalion operates and maintains.

Since its establishment in December 1861, the 10th Brigade Engineer Battalion has deployed and taken part of campaigns in the Civil War, World War I (six campaigns) World War II (ten campaigns, three with Arrowheads for taking part in assault landings), Korean War (eight campaigns), and an undetermined number for the War on Terrorism. Since the start of World War I, the Battalion has earned two Presidential Unit Citations (World War II and Iraq), a Meritorious Unit Citation, a World War I French Croix de Guerre, two World War II French Croix de Guerre, a French Fourragere, two Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citations, and the Greek medal Chryssoun Aristion Andrias (Cross of Valour).

As of Summer 2023, the Battalion is assigned to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division and is based at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
