U.S. ARMY 10TH SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The senior United States Army unit on the island of Okinawa, the 10th Support Group (Regional) was constituted in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 10th Support Group on 15 October 1987. In conjunction with United States Army, Japan, the Group’s responsibilities include but are not limited to theater sustainment, carrying out RSO (Reception, Staging, Onward) movement, overseeing contingency operations, and supporting Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and multilateral and bilateral partnership agreements.

A large, gold saltire, or “X,” forms the background of the 10th Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia. Saltires are a longtime heraldic symbol of support, and here it also serves to indicate the numerical designation of the unit by simulating the Roman numeral X. The red torii gate alludes to the unit’s founding and longtime presence on the Japanese island of Okinawa. “Service Through Support,” the unit motto, is inscribed in gold letters on three black bars: gold is the color of excellence, and black is the color of unity and solidarity.
