The 111th Air Defense Artillery Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), also called a unit crest, was originally approved for the 129th Antiaircraft Artillery (precursor to the 3rd Battery, 111th Artillery) on 22 September 1955, but was cancelled on 23 March 1960. It was reinstated and redesignated on 30 August 1976 for the 111th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, with its symbolism appropriately amended.
A voided cross of St. George in the center of the insignia is a reference to the English colonization of Virginia and also perpetuates Grimes Battery (formed in 1809 with its descendant organizations a part of the Regiment) and recalls the War of 1812. The saltire stands for Confederate Service in the Civil War. Two fleur-de-lis are for service in France and Central Europe and also allude to the French Croix de Guerre a predecessor unit received for actions during the invasion of Normandy. "Glory And Honor" is the Regimental motto.
