U.S. ARMY 11TH AIR DEFENSE ARTILLERY BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

At the center of the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia is a white star representing Texas, the home of the unit. It is surrounded by a six-lobed disk set upon an blue background to emulate the appearance of an explosion in the sky and thus the basic mission of Air Defense Artillery. Yellow (gold) and scarlet are the traditional colors used by Artillery units and are also employed in the design of the brigade’s Combat Service ID Badge / Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. The number of white trefoils (three-sided design) located between the golden rays emerging from the simulated explosion, when added to the number of points on the star, point to the uniit’s numerical designation (6 + 5 = 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade).

This insignia was originally approved for the 11th Artillery Group on 1 September 1971. Less than a year later, on 4 April 1972, it was redesignated for the 11th Air Defense Artillery Group. It was then given its current designation for the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, with this final redesignation taking effect on 16 December 1980.

As of Autumn 2023, the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade is a unit in the Active Component of the U.S. Army. Assigned to the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command and based at Fort Bliss, Texas, the Brigade consists of three Battalion (1st, 2n,d, and 3rd) from the 43rd Air Defense Artillery Regiment and the 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment.
