The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e),
"Beret" and
"Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 139th Field Artillery Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) was approved on 29 March 1978 and pays tribute to the unit’s service during the First and Second World Wars. An invected pile in the middle of the insignia recalls the form of a cyclone, a nickname for the 38th Division under which the Regiment served in both wars. Embattlements are a reference to the walled castles of Europe (World War I) and palm trees symbolizes service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II; the arrow reflects the Regiment’s participation in the amphibious landings at Luzon. Blue, white, and red are the colors of the Philippine flag and denote the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation which the unit was awarded (139th and 163rd Field Artillery Battalions cited). Battery A, 3rd Battalion was also honored with a Presidential Unit Citation and a streamer embroidered CABALLO ISLAND (site of Fort Hughes in the Philippines).
In 2001, Battery E was awarded an Army Superior Unit Award for its support of Task Force Eagle Covering Force in 1996 – 1997, and in 2014 it was tapped for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service during a deployment to Afghanistan between January and September 2013. (Battery E was inactivated in 2015, with its lineage and history being transferred to 2nd Battalion, 150th Field Artillery Regiment.)
The Regimental motto, “ARMA PACIS FULCRA,” is a Latin phrase that is rendered “Arms Are The Supporters Of Peace” in English.
