U.S. ARMY 139TH SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 139th Support Group Distinctive Unit Insignia (also called a unit crest) was approved on 26 November 2007. While the unit has been redesignated as the 139th Regional Support Group since that time, there is no indication on The Institute of Heraldry Web site that this insignia has been redesignated for wear by its members despite the fact that it almost certainly inherited the lineage and honors of the 139th Support Group.

In the center of the shield portion of the insignia is a recreation of the statue of General Andrew Jackson that stands in Jackson Square in New Orleans. It depicts Jackson moving to the center of the line in review of his troops, who have presented arms as a salute to their leader, who acknowledges their respect by raising his hat. Jackson’s bridle hand is turned over to indicate he is restraining his mount, which is displaying its restive urge to dash down the line; similarly, Jackson’s forces share the same type of eagerness and willingness to prove their commitment to our nation’s liberty.

In the background is an image of the St. Louis Cathedral to identify the location as Jackson Square, the famous open-air plaza full of life and buzzing with diversity, vibrancy, and most of all freedom—all treasured in the Group’s home state of Louisiana. SEMPER SUSTINERE LIBERTAS, the unit motto, translates as “Always Supporting Freedom.”

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
