This Distinctive Unit Insignia (also called a unit crest or DUI) was first worn by the personnel of the 150th Aviation Battalion, New Jersey Army National Guard after it was approved on 22 July 1980. It was redesignated for the 150th Aviation Regiment on 1 October 1987. “Our Guard Is Up,” the unit motto, is a clever play on words, with the word “Guard” referring to the National Guard as well as “defenses” and the word “Up” a reference to Aviation. The wings on the spearhead denote the Aviation mission, while the spearhead is an allusion to the unit’s offensive capabilities and the embattlements on the triangles symbolize defense. Blue and white are symbolic of sky and clouds.
Distinctive Unit Insignias is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 150th Aviation Regiment was formed 1 October 1987 from the 150th Aviation Battalion, 50th Armored Division, which had been assigned to the Division ever since it was originally constituted on 30 August 1978 in the New Jersey Army National Guard. One of the existing units used to create the Battalion’s Company E had a lineage that included service as an Infantry unit credited with participation in three European-African-Middle Eastern campaigns during World War II (Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe) and an award of a Presidential Unit Citation, also during World War II.
Headquartered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Lakehurst, New Jersey, the 150th Aviation Regiment—comprised of a single Battalion made up of an HHC, five companies, and an assigned Aviation Support Battalion—falls under the 57th Troop Command, New Jersey Army National Guard. As of 2020, its units are based in New Jersey, West Virginia, and Pennsyvlania. During the War on Terror, the 150th has deployed overseas on two occasions: in 2005 to Iraq and in 2010 to Bosnia.
