The 152nd Cavalry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 15 October 1929 while the organization was still designated as an Infantry Regiment. It was redesignated with an effective date of 1 September 2007 for the 152nd Cavalry Regiment featuring a revised description and updated symbolism. The insignia's blue shield is used to indicate the unit’s original designation in the Infantry branch. Red cotises (thin red lines) on the gold band make for Spanish colors to commemorate service in the Spanish-American War. The cactus below and the fleur-de-lis above the bend represent Mexican Border duty and overseas service in France, respectively. “Fit To Fight,” the unit motto, is an apt adage for any line branch.
Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Nicknamed the “Second Indiana,” the 152nd Cavalry Regiment’s roots go back to the Civil War and the raising of an Infantry regiment in 1864 for one year’s service in the Union Army. However, little information is available online regarding its reorganizations, redesignations, and other administrative changes; from its insignia, units in its lineage served in both the Spanish-American War and along the Mexican Border in 1916-1917. In 1917, it was drafted into Federal service as the 152nd Infantry to serve in World War I and was assigned to the 76th Brigade, 38th Division—a relationship that continued throughout World War II and into the 21st Century and the War on Terrorism.
Between 2006 and 2007, the 2nd Battalion, 152nd Infantry Regiment’s service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom was later recognized (in 2009) with the award of a Meritorious Unit Commendation. Later that year, the Regiment was redesignated as the 152nd Cavalry Regiment and reorganized to consist of the 1st Squadron. For its service between 10 April 2008 and 15 November 2008, the Squadron was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation in 2011.
Most recently, the 1st Squadron deployed to Europe to take part in Slovak Shield 2019, a NATO warfighting exercise involving the U.S. and Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Portugal.
As of Autumn 2023, the 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry Regiment is assigned to the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 38th Infantry Division, Indiana Army National Guard.
