Frequently referred to as a unit crest or by the initialism DUI, the 155th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was first approved 7 January 1969 for the 159th Supply and Service Battalion; it is unclear when it was redesignated for the 155th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. “Support To Fight,” the Battalion motto, is inscribed in gold text (for excellence) on a black background, which is the color of solidarity and cohesiveness. Serving as the basis of the shield portion of the insignia is a two-warded (two-sided) key, a traditional symbol of both supply (as in the key to a storeroom) and service, the unit’s original missions. A pair of crossed swords resting atop the key are a reference to combat support, and the heraldic rose has an unlikely reference point: the annual Tournament of Roses parade, held in Pasadena very near the Battalion’s location in South El Monte, California.
Distinctive Unit Insignias is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam.
