Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device.
It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia worn by personnel in the 158th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) was originally approved on 12 October 1971 while the unit was still designated as the 158th Supply and Service Battalion. In its center is a giant cactus, taken from the crest of the coast of arms of the Arizona Army National Guard to indicate the unit’s allotment to that organization.
Serving as the base for the cactus are blocks arrayed in a diamond shape that is suggested by an Indian design, a reference to Arizona’s sizable Native-American population—the largest in the nation. The pattern in which the blocks are stacked to form the diamond signifies the Battalion’s supply and stock control activity, as well as its capability to provide general support. The unit motto “Provide And Defend” emphasizes both the Battalion’s Support and Logistics functions as well as its military preparedness.
The Arizona Army National Guard Web site does not list when the 158th Supply and Service Battalion was redesignated as the 158th Support Battalion or when it was given its current designation as the 158th CSSB. As of Summer 2023, the Battalion's Headquarters and Headquarters Company is assigned to the 198th Regional Support Group, Arizona Army National Guard.
