A fort displayed from an overhead perspective is the focal point of the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was originally approved for the 16th Support Group on 14 April 1988. It was subsequently redesignated, with a revised description and an effective date of effective 16 July 2007, for the 16th Sustainment Brigade. of the 16th Sustainment Brigade.
The wide array of the brigade’s services and components are embodied in the multi-faceted design of the stronghold, while a fort is a symbol of stout defenses and martial readiness. A chevron, reminiscent of the one employed in the design of the unit's Shoulder Sleeve Insignia / Combat Service ID Badge (SSI / CSIB) is another emblem associated with strength and support. Buff and scarlet coloration is traditionally associated with the heraldry of Support units; blue is the color of loyalty and steadfastness. Bracketing the top and bottom of the insignia is the unit's motto, "Logistics The Key To Win."
Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
