Frequently referred to as a unit crest or by its initialism (DUI), the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 176th Financial Management Support Unit features a dragon segreant (the dragon equivalent of a lion rampant) that symbolizes its service in the Orient, from Okinawa to Vietnam to South Korea. The diamond containing the dragon is adapted from the branch insignia of the Finance Corps, while the crossed sword and quill pen denote the organization’s administrative role in support of Army personnel. “Pay The Way,” the unit motto, emphasizes what is arguably the first and foremost mission of a Finance Corps unit: ensuring Soldiers receive their pay in a timely and usable fashion.Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Over that period of time, it has been redesignated as the 176th Finance Battalion, the 176th Finance Company, the 176th Financial Management Company, and finally its current title of 176th Financial Management Support Unit.
