The 200th Military Police Command was constituted from the former 220th Military Police Brigade on 6 March 2006. Originally a Headquarters and Headquarters Company, it was redesignated a Command on 16 April 2008 at Fort Meade, Maryland, making it just one of two Military Police Commands in the entire Army. With a motto of “Commanding The Best,” it is largest Military Police organization that falls under the purview of the Department of Defense and the fourth largest policing organization in the entire United States.
Approved for wear at the same time the unit was designated a Command, the 200th Military Police Command Shoulder Insignia fives sides that represent the five operations of an MP organization: Area Security, Law and Order, Internment and Resettlement, Maneuver and Mobility Support, and Police Intelligence.
Green and yellow, colors of the Military Police branch, are the predominant colors used for the full-color insignia. Crossed pikes, weapons once used by guards, symbolize cooperation and protection. A globe is an allusion to the operational realm of the organization as well as its capabilities. An upright sword superimposed the scales of justice recall the military mission that is inherently a part of the organization’s duties along with the primary mission of upholding the law.
