Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The focal point of the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 201st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade is a griffin—a mythical creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion—clutching a lighting flash in one paw and a sword in the other (the unit is nicknamed "Gryphons Brigade"). Lightning flashes are indicative of modern communications and electronic warfare technologies, while the sword is a reminder of the inherent danger involved in the collection of military intelligence. The combination of the eagle’s sharp eyesight and the lion’s strength and courage make the griffin the perfect image to visually convey the unit motto, “With Courage and Vision.”
Behind the griffin is a polestar superimposed on a blue disc, symbolizing the world and far-flung reach of the unit’s capabilities. The snow-capped peak the griffin is perched upon represents the Korean campaigns of the Brigade’s predecessor, the 201st Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment, while the wavy blue and silver bars stand for participation in World War II campaigns in the Pacific theater.
As of Autumn 2023, the 201st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade is an active unit headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It is a subordinate command of I Corps.
