U.S. ARMY 20TH AREA SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 20th Area Support Group was originally constituted as Headquarters and Headquarters Company 20th General Support Group in the Regular Army on 20 November 1965. It was inactivated on 29 June 1973 in Korea and reactivated a little over a dozen years later, also in Korea, on 16 August 1985. It was redesignated as the 20th Area Support Group on 4 May 1991.

As 20th Area Support Group, the unit was tasked with all support responsibilities in Area IV, which encompassed all the region south of Tajon; this included Camp Carroll in the village of Waegwan; Camps George, Henry, and Walker in Taegu; Pier 8 and Camp Hialeah in Pusan; the recreation facility at Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea; and a Marine detachment located in Pohang. It had command and control over the 4th Quartermaster Detachment and the 23rd Chemical Battalion, and the Army Garrison at Pusan.

On 16 October 2003, the Army constituted Area IV Support Activity and assigned control of its operations to the 20th Area Support Group and moved it there, where the Group continued its mission of "Carrying The Load To Win." In April 2005, the unit moved to Camp Carroll and was subsequently inactivated in June 2006, a little under a year before Area IV Support Activity was redesignated as U.S. Army Garrison Daegu.
