U.S. ARMY 210TH AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 210th Aviation Regiment was approved on 17 May 1968 while the unit was still designated as the 210th Aviation Battalion. On 6 January 1996, following a nine-year period of inactivation, the Battalion was redesignated as the 210th Aviation, a parent regiment in the U.S Army Regimental System, and transferred to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

Since that time, the mission of its two Battalions has been to train new Army Aviation Maintenance personnel, including advanced instruction for Chief Warrant Officers. Its excellence in this role is evidenced by the three Army Superior Unit Awards awarded to the Battalions (two for the 1st, one for the 2nd) since they joined TRADOC. In 2005, it was given its current designation as the 210th Aviation Regiment.

But the unit was originally constituted in February 1967 to serve in combat, and in its four-and-a-half years of service in Vietnam it was a four-time recipient of the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, as well as a Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class. In all, it would take part in a dozen campaigns in Vietnam before its inactivation in August 1971.

Ultramarine blue and golden orange in the 210th Aviation Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia denote its status as an Aviation unit, with the blue background also representing the sky (referenced in the motto of “Battle Line The Sky”). A pair of crossed arrows symbolizes the organization’s combat readiness, and the wings are an allusion to the speed at which the unit executes its mission. The design also refers to the unit’s numerical designation of 210, with the wings representing the Arabic “2” and the crossed arrows an image of the Roman numeral “X” for “10.”

Both the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 210th Aviation Regiment are based at Fort Novosel (formerly named Fort Rucker) in Alabama.
