“Courage And Command,” the motto of the 212th Field Artillery Brigade, forms the base of the 212th Field Artillery Brigade Distinctive Unit Insignia (unit crest), with the inscription in gold (yellow) and the scroll in red, branch colors for Field Artillery. Above the scroll is a golden wild sunflower, state flower of Kansas and a reference to the Brigade’s origins at Fort Riley as the 212th Field Artillery Group in 1944.
The Brigade’s service in Central Europe during World War II is symbolized with a double-headed battle axe, a favorite weapon of Teutonic warriors. The gold axe is superimposed on a black gunstone, frequently used in military heraldry to refer to the firepower of an Artillery unit.
