U.S. ARMY SPECIAL TROOPS BATTALION, 2ND BCT, 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, of the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (ID) was approved on 6 January 2005, less than a month after it was established from the Headquarters Company of the 4th ID’s 2nd Brigade in December 2004. A blue chevron connoting the unit’s support role is divided by a silver chevron; the two parts of the divided chevron are a reference to the Brigade Combat Team’s numerical designation.

Superimposed on the insignia is a bayonet, a reference to the unit’s role in providing combat and security support, while lightning flashes at the bayonet’s tip refer to its communication and intelligence roles. The unit motto, “First In,” is inscribed on a tri-sectioned scroll at the bottom of the insignia.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."
