Although the unit crest (also known as the Distinctive Unit Insignia or DUI) of the 2nd Medical Brigade features the ancient surgical implement known as a fleam at its center because of its visual similarity to the numeral "2," the focal point of the insignia is a pair of crossed swords which represent Soldiers. They meet at a red cross, symbolizing the unit’s care and treatment of troops, which has been placed on a white disc that is an emblem of hope. Across the top of the crest are rays of the setting sun, a reference to the unit’s location on the western coast of the United States. "Center of Mercy," the 2nd Medical Brigade's motto, resides at the bottom of the crest, with the swords' handles crossing under the words "Center" and "Mercy."
This insignia was originally approved for the 2nd Hospital Center on 31 August 1979. It was subsequently redesignated for the 2nd Medical Brigade, with revised symbolism and description, on 20 October 1992.
